5. Polish Volume with Tooled Portrait

Poland, 16c.
On: Powodowski's Conciones aliquot.
Published: Antwerp, 1575
British Library, Shelfmark c130b11.

Limp vellum roughly tooled in silver front and back.

This volume is much more commonplace and roughly tooled than many of the collector's volumes in the exhibit, but it does illustrate an interesting history of tooling, with a silver-tooled portrait (apparently of crowned royalty) covering an earlier ownership mark on the back panel.
